Arnie Schulberg is of counsel to Babst Calland and the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group.
Mr. Schulberg is a well-known and widely-respected energy attorney focusing on oil, gas and mineral title examination and industry matters. He maintains an independent private practice in Hurricane, West Virginia. He is admitted to practice in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio, where he practices primarily in the oil and gas industries, including the preparation of oil and gas title opinions and advising clients on transactional matters.
Background
Mr. Schulberg earned his B.S. in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974 and his J.D. from the Duquesne University School of Law in 1977.
Mr. Schulberg joined Babst Calland in 2010, and brings to the firm more than three decades of experience in providing oil, gas and mineral title opinions to clients. After being part of a business and energy law practice, Mr. Schulberg was a landman and attorney for a Pittsburgh-based oil and gas exploration and development company, working primarily in the areas of farmouts, joint operating agreements and joint ventures. He returned to private practice to focus on oil and gas title matters and other natural resources transactional work.
Memberships and Affiliations
Mr. Schulberg has been an active member and officer of the Michael Late Benedum Chapter of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL), and was a national officer and Chairman of the AAPL’s task force that created its model Coalbed Methane Joint Operating Agreement. He also has participated extensively in the Energy and Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF), including serving as a Program Chairman, Annual Institute Chairman, Trustee, and most recently as Program Chairman – Abstracting Titles for Marcellus Shale Development/Title Opinions and Title Curative.
Publications/Presentations
Mr. Schulberg has published various articles in professional periodicals on the subject of master land services contracts and the Coalbed Methane Joint Operating Agreement, and is co-author of a recent EMLF paper on “Leasing from Estates and Trusts.”
