Area of Emphasis
Chris Channel joined Babst Calland in 2004 and is currently a shareholder practicing in the Litigation Services Group. Mr. Channel’s practice includes commercial and intellectual property litigation. He has represented numerous individuals and corporations in cases involving covenants not to compete and trade secrets. Mr. Channel has also represented corporations, artists and photographers in intellectual property matters involving copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets. He has defended numerous products liability, premises liability and negligence claims on behalf of hospitals, a wood products manufacturer and industrial equipment manufacturers. Mr. Channel works diligently to understand the client’s business goals and how litigation impacts those goals in developing the litigation strategy. He has experience with a number of Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanisms including arbitration, mediation and use of neutral evaluator.
Background
Mr. Channel obtained his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1999, where he majored in both English and Philosophy. Immediately upon graduation, he served as the Interim Director of the Stockert Youth Center in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Mr. Channel attended law school at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William and Mary, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 2002. He was awarded a graduate research fellowship, and conducted research for professors on topics such as constitutional law, courtroom technology and economic analysis of the law. Prior to joining Babst Calland, Mr. Channel maintained an active practice at another Pittsburgh law firm in the areas of complex, commercial and copyright litigation.
Memberships and Affiliations
Mr. Channel is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern District of West Virginia. He is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations and the West Virginia Bar. Mr. Channel has been recognized as one of Pennsylvania’s up-and-coming lawyers since 2005, according to an annual survey published in Philadelphia magazine. Mr. Channel was selected from among the active civil litigation attorneys in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania to serve on the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Civil Litigation Council, which represents a cross-section of attorneys and judges involved with civil litigation in the county.
