Area of Emphasis

David Ross joined Babst Calland in 2002, and currently serves as chair of the Creditors Rights and Insolvency Practice Group. He focuses his practice in the areas of creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, commercial and residential real estate, title insurance law and commercial litigation. Mr. Ross regularly represents financial institutions, consumer finance companies, title insurance companies, municipal entities and creditors in a wide range of creditors’ rights, bankruptcy and real estate matters. He has represented banks and financial institutions, court appointed receivers and custodians, Chapter 7, 11 and 15 Debtors, Official Committees of Unsecured Creditors and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy proceedings throughout the United States. He has represented clients in many industries including:  steel, coal, hospitality, healthcare, golf, manufacturing, food, retail, furniture and construction. He has also represented municipal creditors and lenders in numerous sheriff’s sale and foreclosure proceedings in various counties throughout western Pennsylvania.

 From the real estate perspective, he has advised owners, tenants, sellers, buyers and managers of commercial real estate on various real estate and landlord/tenant issues both in and out of court. Mr. Ross is also a licensed Title Agent in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. 

Mr. Ross also practices in the firm’s State College office and routinely counsels clients in the Centre County region regarding creditor’s rights, bankruptcy issues, real estate matters and general litigation.

Background

Mr. Ross received his J.D. degree in 1991 from the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1988 with a B.A. in philosophy.

Memberships and Affiliations

Mr. Ross is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third and Fourth Circuits and the United States Supreme Court.

 

Mr. Ross is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations. He is a member of the Bankruptcy and Commercial Law Section of the Allegheny County Bar Association (Past Chair). He is also a member of the Turnaround Management Association, the Western District Bankruptcy Inns of Court (Committee Member) and the Notre Dame Club of Pittsburgh. Mr. Ross is currently serving as the Co-Chair for the Standing Committee on the Local Rules for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

 

Mr. Ross was recognized as one of Pennsylvania’s Rising Stars and currently as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer, according to an annual survey published in Philadelphia magazine.
