Area of Emphasis

Krista-Ann Staley is an associate in the Public Sector Services and Natural Resources Development groups of Babst Calland. Ms. Staley's practice focuses on municipal law, with an emphasis on land use and land development issues. She works with municipal clients, including several boroughs, townships, municipal authorities and zoning hearing boards in the Pittsburgh area. In addition, Ms. Staley assists in the representation of private parties in matters relating to governmental entities, such as Right-to-Know requests. She also works with energy industry clients, with a particular emphasis on the land use issues related to the development of the Marcellus Shale.

Background

Ms. Staley graduated cum laude from the Honor's College at Ball State University in 2003 where she earned a Bachelor of Urban Planning and Regional Development and was selected as an American Institute of Certified Planners Outstanding Student. She earned her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2007 with a certificate in advanced study of environmental law, science and policy. While in law school Ms. Staley served as a senior editor and outreach coordinator for JURIST, Pitt's legal news and research website, and won the Ronald D. Ecker Memorial Award for Outstanding Achievement in Client Counseling in 2006 and 2007. Ms. Staley also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Law and Science and Environmental Politics and Policy, in addition to participating in Pitt's Environmental Law Clinic.

Upon graduation, Ms. Staley clerked for President Judge Kenneth G. Valasek, Senior Judge Joseph A. Nickleach, and Judge James J. Panchik of the Armstrong County Court of Common Pleas.

Memberships and Affiliations

Ms. Staley is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations. She also serves on the Legislative Committee of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association and is an alumna of the CORO Center for Civic Leadership Women in Leadership program.
