Area of Emphasis
Marcia Grimes is a shareholder in the Business Services Group of Babst Calland. Her practice is concentrated in the area of commercial real estate law and general corporate and business counseling for domestic and international companies.
Ms. Grimes’ practice includes all aspects of commercial real estate matters, including property sales and acquisitions, financing through institutional lenders and governmental loan programs, leasing, rights of way, eminent domain and relocation, development, multi-site nationwide transactions, and condominiums and cooperatives. Ms. Grimes also regularly provides general business advice to clients in both the public and private sectors in a variety of other industries and disciplines, including manufacturing, coal, mining, oil and gas, public and private utilities, transit, sales, government procurement and consulting.
Some of her most recent work includes: representation of the purchaser of a development comprising a hotel, golf clubs, a marina, tennis clubs and a swim club; representation of a utility in title curative work on hundreds of properties nationwide; representation of an industrial development corporation with respect to numerous industrial development projects, including industrial parks, brownfield site development, downtown housing and commercial condominiums; negotiating leases for varied projects, including retail, restaurant, office, warehouse and industrial facilities; and representation of an authority with respect to obtaining multiple property sites for its capital expansion programs through lease, purchase and eminent domain.
Ms. Grimes serves as general counsel pro bono to the Allegheny Valley Habitat for Humanity and Pittsburgh Habitat for Humanity.
Background
Ms. Grimes graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974, with a B.A. in English Literature and French. She received her J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1983, where she was an editor of the Law Review. Ms. Grimes speaks German and French.
Memberships and Affiliations
Ms. Grimes is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and Texas. She is admitted before the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the Texas Supreme Court, and the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, Ms. Grimes is on the Board of Directors of Pittsburgh Action Against Rape (PAAR) and NAIOP (the Commercial Real Estate Development Association), and the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of Pittsburgh Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW). She has been recognized as one of Pennsylvania’s top lawyers since 2008, according to an annual survey published in Philadelphia magazine.
