Area of Emphasis

Matt Malcho is a shareholder in the Energy & Natural Resources and Business Services Groups of Babst Calland. He works with a wide range of energy and oil and gas clients in connection with various transactional matters relating to the acquisition and development of oil and gas assets. This practice includes services related to oil and gas leasing, title issues and opinions, due diligence activities, corporate mergers and acquisitions and a wide range of ongoing operational issues pertaining to the development of natural resources in the Marcellus and Utica Shale. In addition, Matt counsels various clients in a broad range of financing issues unique to the oil and gas industry, including financing of oil and gas property investments, working capital financing secured by oil and gas interests and equipment financing relating to industries in support of oil and gas development.

 

Matt also represents financial institutions and borrowers in commercial and corporate finance transactions, with a special focus on real estate secured and construction financing. He deals with a wide range of transactional work including acquisition financing, structured financing, mezzanine debt financing, syndicated lending and term and revolving credit facilities. Matt has been involved in all sides of transactions associated with domestic and international mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, real estate transactions and leasing and equity investments in a broad range of real estate projects.

 

Background

Matt received his B.A. in Business Administration with Honors from Michigan State University in 1992, where he was a National Merit Scholar. He received his J.D. in 1995 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was a Dean's Merit Scholar. Prior to entering private practice, Matt served as general counsel to a local real estate brokerage and investment management firm and a local specialty contractor where he dealt with a variety of leasing, general corporate, real estate, contract and commercial financing issues.

 

Memberships and Affiliations

Matt is admitted to practice in all state courts in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations.
