Area of Emphasis
Paul Atencio is a shareholder in the Energy & Natural Resources and Business Services Groups of Babst Calland.
Mr. Atencio works on a wide range of oil, gas and mineral matters including oil and gas title opinions, title examination, title defect curative work, due diligence, litigation, and contractual and regulatory issues. He has handled matters involving oil, gas and mineral transactions and acquisitions and is experienced in preparing leases, deeds, easements and other related agreements.
Mr. Atencio also counsels clients from various industries, including for-profit and nonprofit entities, on transactional and regulatory matters involving business and corporate law, securities, commercial finance and real estate. He has assisted clients with business acquisitions, sales and entity formation issues. Mr. Atencio regularly prepares contracts and agreements used by his clients in their day-to-day businesses. He further represents clients in commercial and corporate finance transactions with a special focus on real estate secured and construction financing.
Background
Mr. Atencio received his B.A. from the University of Colorado, Boulder and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. During law school, he took first place in the Murray S. Love Trial Moot Court Competition and was a finalist in the Gourley Trial Moot Court Competition. In recognition of his achievements, Mr. Atencio received the Pitt Law Alumni Association Scholarship Award and was named a member of the Order of the Barristers.
Memberships and Affiliations
Mr. Atencio is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the Western District of Pennsylvania and the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the Allegheny County and American Bar Associations. Mr. Atencio is the President of the Board of Trustees for the Bethel Park Public Library and chair of its Fundraising Committee.

Mr. Atencio has been published and lectures on topics including oil and has law and business law issues before professional and civic organizations.
