Rebecca Dick-Hurwitz is Senior Counsel in the Employment and Labor Services Group of Babst Calland. Her practice focuses primarily on employment law, including litigation and counseling on a wide variety of employment issues. Specifically, Ms. Dick-Hurwitz litigates in federal and state courts on behalf of employers in all aspects of employment law including all federal, state and local anti-discrimination statutes, the Family Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards and the Uniform Trade Secrets Act. In addition, she handles cases in federal and state appellate courts. Ms. Dick-Hurwitz represents employers before federal, state and local administrative agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, the Pittsburgh Commission on Human Relations, the Department of Labor and other state and federal agencies. She also represents employers in unemployment compensation hearings and appeals. Additionally, Ms. Dick-Hurwitz counsels and conducts training sessions regarding all aspects of employment law including all anti-discrimination statutes, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, recordkeeping and restrictive covenants. She counsels employers with respect to employment decisions, including discipline, discharge, investigations, layoffs, settlement agreements and severance plans. Ms. Dick-Hurwitz also drafts employment policies and employee handbooks, and conducts workplace audits.
Background
Ms. Dick-Hurwitz received her B.A. from Indiana University in 1976 and earned her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1991. While at the University of Pittsburgh, she was an Executive Editor of the Law Review and the recipient of the William H. Eckert Prize and the Scribes Award.
Memberships and Affiliations
Ms. Dick-Hurwitz is admitted to practice before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Third and Sixth Circuits, the United States District Court for the Western and Eastern Districts of Pennsylvania and the Eastern District of Michigan. She is a member of the Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations.
Ms. Dick-Hurwitz is a founding member of the Women’s Interactive Network, the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Female Executives. Ms. Dick-Hurwitz is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association, the Western Pennsylvania Diversity Initiative, the National Diversity Council, and serves on the Animal Friends Advisory Board. She was an advisor for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania Magistrate Judge Retention Committee and has judged the annual University of Pittsburgh Murray S. Love Moot Court Competition.

Ms. Dick-Hurwitz is a frequent speaker to human resources professionals and attorneys on a wide variety of employment-related topics and was a contributor to the Third Edition of Lindemann & Grossman’s Employment Discrimination Law and the Pittsburgh Legal Journal.
