Babst Calland’s Natural Resources Group Adds Team of 18

Firm Expands Prominent Energy Team
with Mergers & Acquisitions, Litigation
and Title Lawyers

The law firm of Babst Calland has announced the addition of 16 lawyers and two paralegals to its Pittsburgh office. The group is led by veteran attorneys Bruce Rudoy and Steve Silverman. Mr. Rudoy brings to Babst Calland mergers and acquisitions experience in the natural gas arena, as well as one of the region’s largest and most well-respected title groups. Mr. Silverman adds depth to Babst Calland’s litigation practice and provides the firm with another experienced energy litigator who is proficient in natural gas related litigation, including quiet title actions and lease disputes.

The expansion of the firm’s already well-established natural resources practice is taking place at a time when many energy companies participating in unconventional gas development are tapping Babst Calland’s multi-disciplinary practice group for their Marcellus and Utica Shale development initiatives.

Babst Calland was founded more than 25 years ago and has represented energy clients since its inception. Today, nearly one-half of the firm’s lawyers are involved in servicing energy clients. Last month, the firm announced the opening of its newest office in Charleston, West Virginia and the addition of several experienced West Virginia energy lawyers.  The firm asserts a multi-disciplinary practice approach to address the wide range of issues affecting its clients, including: environmental, mergers & acquisitions, business services, title, litigation, land use, construction, and employment and labor.

“We are focused on providing our energy clients with the breadth and depth of legal services they need to carry on their businesses in this region,” said Chester R. Babst III, managing shareholder of Babst Calland. “These additions significantly strengthen our mergers & acquisitions, title and litigation teams by combining one of the region’s most respected energy practices with Babst Calland’s existing multi-disciplinary practice group.”

The new Babst Calland attorneys are Bruce Rudoy, Steve Silverman, Paul Atencio, Heather Brooks, Jonathan Dan, Chris Hall, Josh Hall, Rachel Henry, Melissa Krasnow, Leah LaFramboise, Ashley Lypson, Matt Malcho, Scott McKernan, Ashley Resko, James Weaver and Jason Zoeller and paralegals Jill Morrow and Heather Neumann.

Firm Expands Prominent Team of Energy Lawyers with Addition of Attorneys Matthew S. Casto and Steven M. Green

Babst Calland recently announced the opening of its newest office in Charleston, West Virginia at the United Center on Virginia Street East.

The expansion of the Firm’s already well-established natural resources practice is taking place at a time when many of the energy companies participating in unconventional gas development are tapping Babst Calland’s multi-disciplinary practice group for its Marcellus and Utica Shale development initiatives.

The Firm was founded 25 years ago and has represented energy clients since its inception. The Firm has developed a multi-disciplinary practice to address the wide range of issues affecting its clients, including environmental, business services, title, litigation, land use, construction, and employment and labor. More than 30 lawyers in the firm currently are involved in servicing the Firm’s energy clients.

Energy Attorneys Matthew S. Casto and Steven M. Green join Babst Calland as shareholders of the firm effective October 10. Mr. Casto is admitted to practice in West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky and Mr. Green is admitted to practice in West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

Prior to joining Babst Calland, Casto and Green gained experience in the natural gas industry both as in-house counsel to a major energy company and in private practice serving utility and oil and gas clients.

Earlier this year, Babst Calland added to its team West Virginia energy attorney Arnold Schulberg, who is special counsel to the firm’s energy clients focusing on oil, gas and mineral title examination. More than 20 Babst Calland attorneys are licensed to practice in West Virginia.

“The significant growth of our natural resources practice during the past few years has created a need for geographic expansion of our services,” said Chester R. Babst III, managing shareholder of Babst Calland. “The addition of Matt Casto and Steve Green to our Natural Resources Group will benefit our clients who are invested in shale development, and the opening of this office is another step in Babst Calland’s commitment to establish and maintain an active presence in the Charleston community.”
