History

Babst Calland is a regional law firm based in downtown Pittsburgh with branch offices in State College, PA, Charleston, WV and Sewell, NJ (outside of Philadelphia). The firm has niche experience and delivers quality legal services to corporations, closely-held businesses and municipalities. The firm embraces a philosophy of outstanding client service and an “in the trenches" approach, with many of our attorneys having industry or corporate backgrounds in their particular practice area.

Formed in 1986 with seven attorneys, Babst Calland began as a boutique firm focusing on environmental regulatory law. Babst Calland attorneys were in on the ground level of several of today’s most well known environmental programs such as RCRA and CERCLA.

As the environmental practice took off, the firm added complementary practice areas to better serve clients. The Litigation Services and Business Services Groups were first to be formalized. The Employment and Labor Services Group was the next addition to the firm. This group filled a need to assist clients with employment, labor and human resources issues. Babst Calland currently has lawyers listed in Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business, who has listed Babst Calland’s environmental practice as the best in Pennsylvania, along with several environmental lawyers receiving recognition as being among the best in the state.

Solvaire Technologies, L.P.

The need for flexible, client-centered document management software and consulting services is critical and growing. Solvaire Technologies, L.P. helps to meet this need by building customized document management systems and helping businesses analyze, manage and image their paper documents.

Midstate Closing Company

Based in the firm’s State College office, MidState Closing Company is a full-service real estate settlement company with experience in all parts of the settlement process. MidState’s support staff and attorneys are skilled at coordinating everything, including title searches, preparation of HUD statements and escrow calculations, all leading up to a seamless closing.

Public Partners

The challenges local governments face can be, at times, overwhelming. Few municipalities have the resources, knowledge or experience to tackle every issue on their own. To tackle this need the firm founded Public Partners, a full-service team of local government consultants that partners with municipalities in a variety of ways to provide the support, advice, skills and manpower they need — in almost any situation.
