October 2, 2006: Cimini Teaches Evening Class on Employment Law

Shareholder Sally Griffith Cimini taught an evening class on Employment Law as part of the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association's preparation course for the Human Resource Certification Institute test exam.  The class was attended by thirty-five HR Directors from various companies.

October 3, 2006: Thomson Appointed to Board

Shareholder Robert W. Thomson was appointed to the Mt. Lebanon Community Relations Board.

October 3, 2006: Dawley Participates in Panel Discussion at the West Virginia Brownfields Conference

Associate Joseph M. Dawley presented an overview and analysis of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection's (WVDEP) implementation of the Uniform Environmental Covenant Act and participated in a panel discussion on strategies for long term stewardship of engineering and institutional controls at the West Virginia Brownfields Conference.  Members of the panel included the Director of the WVDEP's Division of Land Restoration and the Program Manager of the Northern West Virginia Brownfields Assistance Center.

October 6, 2006: Garber Presents on Municipal Development and Stormwater Permitting

Shareholder Kevin J. Garber gave a presentation on municipal development and stormwater permitting at the Eighth Annual 3 Rivers Wet Weather Demonstration Program conference in Pittsburgh on September 27, 2006.  Approximately 200-250 people attended this two-day event.



October 6, 2006: Garber Speaks on Municipal Environmental Issues

Shareholder Kevin J. Garber spoke on municipal environmental issues at the Fall Conference of Townships, Boroughs & Authorities at Seven Springs resort on September 29, 2006.

October 9, 2006: Heidelbaugh Lectures on Copyright Law

Shareholder Heather S. Heidelbaugh gave a lecture on September 28, 2006 to the Sports and Entertainment Law Class at Point Park University on the topic of copyright law.

October 12, 2006: Buell, Chandler and Legeza Join BCCZ

Christopher M. Buell, Sara A. Chandler and Antonino Legeza joined Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir, P.C. as associates.  Buell and Chandler are 2006 graduates of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Legeza is a 2006 graduate of Duquesne University School of Law.

October 12, 2006: BCCZ Hosts Renewable Energy Teleconference

October 2, 2007: Rosenthal to Co-Chair Campus Superstar

Attorney Alan B. Rosenthal has been selected to co-chair Campus Superstar, the major annual fundraising event for the Hillel-Jewish University Center of Pittsburgh.



October 4, 2007: Chandler Elected to Board of Directors

Associate Sara A. Chandler was elected to Dollar Energy Fund's 2007-2008 Board of Directors.  Dollar Energy Fund is an award-winning, non-profit fuel fund that provides tangible aid to people in need of affording adequate and safe utilities.

On September 20, 2007, associate Christopher S. Channel presented "Copyright 101" to approximately 30 attorneys at the Allegheny County Bar Association's Lunch'n'Learn.

October 9, 2007: Winek and Donofrio Present Training Programs on PSD Compliance and Inspection Issues

On September 25, 2007, Michael H. Winek presented  "PSD Training" and Colleen Grace Donofrio presented "How to Handle Inpsections" in Central Florida to the corporate and facilities' environmental, health and safety, operations and engineering staff of a fertilizer manufacturing client.


October 10, 2007: Baicker-McKee Inducted Into Membership of Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County

On October 5, 2007, shareholder Steven F. Baicker-McKee was inducted into membership of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County.  The Academy's mission is to foster development, improvement and accomplishment of the highest quality of advocacy before the Courts.

October 15, 2007: Heidelbaugh Speaks on Copyright Law

On September 28, 2007, shareholder Heather S. Heidelbaugh gave a speech on copyright law to the International Society of Botanical Artists.

October 17, 2007: Heidelbaugh to Serve as a Pennsylvania State Delegation Co-Chair

Shareholder Heather S. Heidelbaugh has been asked to serve as a Pennsylvania State Delegation Co-Chair for the National Trial Lawyers Honorary Society, of which she is a fellow.

October 25, 2007: Cimini Teaches Employee Relations and Labor Law Class

On October 1, 2007, shareholder Sally Griffith Cimini taught a class entitled "Employee Relations and Labor Law" to the Pittsburgh Human Relations Association.  Approximately 30 Human Resources professionals studying for the HRCI PHR/SPHR certification exam attended.

October 25, 2007: Governor's Office of Health Care Reform Appoints Heidelbaugh as an Advisor

Shareholder Heather S. Heidelbaugh was appointed as an Advisor to the Community Practice Committee of the Pennsylvania Chronic Care Management, Reimbursement and Cost Reduction Commission in regard to Diabetes by the Governor's Office of Health Care Reform.

October 1, 2008: Cimini Speaks on Employee Wellness Programs

On September 16, 2008, Shareholder Sally Griffith Cimini spoke on legal issues associated with employee wellness programs at the Faith-Based Network's "Wellness College."  The program was attended by more than 150 CEOs, CFOs and HR professionals from regional nursing homes and senior living communities.

 



October 2, 2008: BCCZ's Climate Change Group Presents Climate Change Webinar

On September 24, 2008, members of BCCZ's Climate Change Group presented a webinar regarding recent developments in the field.  Attorneys Michael H. Winek and Seth A. Rice spoke on Air Program issues, Donald C. Bluedorn II spoke on Water Program issues, and Kevin K. October 3, 2008: Cimini Presents "You Said What?!?! The Things You Say Can Hurt You!"

On September 30, 2008, Shareholder Sally Griffith Cimini presented "You Said What? The Things You Say Can Hurt You!" to the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh's Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business. The event was attended by approximately 30 small business owners.



October 6, 2008: Rice Presents Environmental Regulatory Update

On September 30, 2008, Associate Seth A. Rice presented an environmental regulatory update program focusing on climate change and Clean Air Act developments to approximately twenty-five environmental managers from shipyards located around the country.



October 8, 2008: Helms and McCurdy Join BCCZ

Christopher M. Helms and Erin E. McCurdy have joined Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir, P.C. as associates.  Mr. Helms is a 2008 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law and Ms. McCurdy is a 2008 graduate of the Duquesne University School of Law.



October 30, 2008: Lucas Speaks on Alternative Energy Sources

On October 14, 2008, Shareholder Blaine A. Lucas spoke on "Planning and Legal Challenges in the Drive to Develop Alternative Energy Sources" at the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association's annual conference.



October 5, 2009: Dean and Mary Calland Receive National Catholic Education Association Award

Dean Calland, a founding shareholder at Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir, P.C. (BCCZ) and his wife Mary will be recognized by the National Catholic Education Association (NCEA) with the 2009 Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Award. The award will be presented at a black tie gala on October 5 in Washington, DC.

The Callands have been instrumental in helping underprivileged students in the Pittsburgh area through their work with the Crossroads Foundation. Mr. Calland serves as president of the board for the foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping at-risk inner-city youth in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. 

Through the foundation, disadvantaged Pittsburgh-area teenagers receive scholarships to attend Catholic high schools. Crossroads provides these students with a strong foundation through one-on-one counseling, skills workshops and leadership/character development programs. In exchange, Crossroads students must meet minimum GPA, attendance and community volunteerism requirements.

The Callands have made significant personal donations to provide scholarships for Crossroads students, and also helped the Crossroads campaign to raise $6.5 million.

“Seeing at-risk students develop both personally and academically through a Catholic education is extremely rewarding,” Mr. Calland said. “My wife and I are proud to be involved with the Crossroads Foundation and to receive this prestigious award from NCEA.

The Seton Award is named after Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton in recognition of her lifelong dedication to teaching. This award is presented annually to exemplary individuals whose support and service impacts Catholic education. Seton honorees have a scholarship presented in their honor to a deserving Catholic school student in the local community.



October 9, 2009: Koehl Joins the Firm

Erica L. Koehl has joined Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir, P.C. as an associate.  Ms. Koehl is a 2009 graduate of Duquesne University School of Law and will be a member of the Litigation Services Group.
