Rachel E. James

Rachel James is a shareholder in the Energy and Natural Resources Group of Babst Calland. Ms. James represents energy clients on oil, gas and mineral-related transaction matters, including title examination, due diligence activities, curative work and the acquisition and disposition of oil and gas fee and leasehold assets.
Ms. James graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 2006, earning a B.A. as a double major in Economics and Political Science. She received her J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2009. While in law school, she interned for Pennsylvania Superior Court Judge Maureen Lally-Green and for the Juvenile Court Division of the Allegheny County Public Defender’s office.
After law school, Ms. James was a land agent for an oil and gas broker where she worked on title and curative matters. Prior to rejoining Babst Calland in 2015, Ms. James worked as an in-house attorney for an energy company focusing on title, curative and due diligence.

Ms. James is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New Mexico (pending), Texas (pending), West Virginia and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
