This growth in development has spurred new regulations from The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) and its state partners. \nThis seminar will include an update on the recent changes to the pipeline safety regulations\, including PHMSA’s new reporting requirements and safety standards for onshore gas gathering lines. Representatives from PHMSA and the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission\, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio\, and West Virginia Public Service Commission will also discuss the important initiatives at the federal and state levels. Federal and State developments since then have confirmed the need for such a statute and highlighted the need for further regulatory mechanisms to facilitate such projects in West Virginia. DESCRIPTION:Babst Calland joins the Energy & Mineral Law Foundation (EMLF) for its 44th Annual Institute\, June 18-20\, 2023. \nLitigation Attorneys Katrina Bowers\, Josh Snyder and Austin Rogers will present “Devil’s Advocate: Crossing the Line of Zealous Advocacy.” As zealous advocates\, attorneys dance on the blade of aggressive advocacy and persuasion.  This presentation will explore this delicate dance through the lens of real-life examples. \nPipeline Attorney Keith Coyle will present “New Federal Gathering Line Regulations.” The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a final rule in November 2021 prescribing new safety standards and reporting requirements for onshore gas gathering lines.  In this session\, Keith\, a former PHMSA Attorney Advisor who represented two pipeline trade organizations during the rulemaking process and in subsequent litigation\, will provide an overview of the new requirements.  As part of his discussion\, he will review the criteria that determine whether an onshore gas gathering line meets the definition of a newly regulated Type C gathering line\, as well as the regulatory requirements that apply to these types of pipelines.  Keith will also cover the requirements that apply to reporting-only Type R gathering lines and some of the other key provisions in the new rules\, including the process for obtaining authorization to use composite pipe material in Type C lines. \nFor more information\, click here. \nKatrina Bowers \nKeith Coyle \nAustin Rogers \nJosh Snyder

SUMMARY:Understanding PFAS Training
DESCRIPTION:Babst Calland joins the Marcellus Shale Coalition for its “Understanding PFAS Training” on Thursday\, June 22\, 2023. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of man-made chemicals that include PFOA\, PFOS\, GenX\, and many other chemicals that all contain fluorine. PFAS have been manufactured and used by a variety of industries for the production of many consumer products around the globe\, including the United States since the 1940s. In recent years\, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) have promulgated regulations\, guidance and new maximum contaminate levels (MCLs) in an attempt to reduce the use of these chemicals and increase environmental cleanup standards. This training will provide a general overview and understanding of the chemistry surrounding PFAS-related chemicals while discussing sampling and analysis. \nEnvironmental Attorney Matt Wood will present on “The Regulatory Landscape: Intersection of Federal and State Standards.” For more information\, click here.
