Areas of Emphasis
Callie Waers is an associate in the Litigation and Energy & Natural Resources groups of Babst Calland. Ms. Waers’s practice focuses primarily on representing oil and gas companies in all forms of litigation, ranging from arbitration to state and federal courts, in a wide variety of matters, including contract and lease disputes, negligence, and other matters as needed to protect their interests.
Ms. Waers has represented clients in cases dealing with a wide variety of legal issues, such as professional liability, insurance coverage, personal injury, construction disputes, constitutional and civil rights claims, privacy law and data breach matters, and issues arising under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Ms. Waers has represented clients in many different industries, including construction, retail, hospitality, medical, municipal and state government, and insurance.
Ms. Waers graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Hospitality Management from the University of Central Florida. Prior to attending law school, she worked in the hospitality industry as a sales and marketing professional with an emphasis on internet sales. Ms. Waers earned her J.D. in 2013 from Washington and Lee University School of Law, where she served as a Kirgis Fellow mentor to incoming students and as Justice (President) of her law school’s chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. While serving on the Phi Alpha Delta Executive Board, she revived the organization’s charity auction and canned food drive, which both benefit local organizations in and around Rockbridge County, Virginia.
Memberships and Affiliations
Ms. Waers is admitted to the West Virginia Bar Association, and she is admitted to practice before the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia. She is also admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Ms. Waers is actively involved in the Defense Research Institute, the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia, and the American Bar Association. She serves as the vice chair of the Young Lawyers Division Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section of the ABA, the Membership Events Director of the Retail and Hospitality Committee for DRI, and the Wine Community Leader for West Virginia for the ABA.
Ms. Waers has been selected to the West Virginia Rising Stars list since 2016.
