Marissa A. Cocciolone

Area of Emphasis

Marissa Cocciolone is an associate in the Litigation, Energy and Natural Resources, and Employment groups of Babst Calland. Ms. Cocciolone represents clients in both state and federal court in a broad range of commercial litigation, with an emphasis on energy-related matters. She also devotes a significant amount of her practice to the defense and prosecution of theft of trade secret and restrictive covenant suits.

Outside the courtroom, her prior experience includes working closely with the in-house litigation department of a large natural gas and pipeline transport company, where she managed internal claims as well as civil litigation through outside counsel.

In addition to her litigation experience, Ms. Cocciolone has counseled employers and businesses on issues relating to cannabis, including risk assessments and employees’ medical use.

Background

Ms. Cocciolone received her B.A. in English with a concentration in Professional Writing from Washington & Jefferson College in 2009 and received her J.D. from Duquesne University in 2012. During her time there, she received recognition for Outstanding Oral Argument in 2010, and helped resolve custody and child support matters for pro se clients through the university’s Civil and Family Justice Clinic. She also completed an externship with Chief Judge Jeffery A. Deller in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania and an internship with retired Judge Gary Caruso in the Court of Common Pleas of Westmoreland County.

Admitted to the state of Pennsylvania, Ms. Cocciolone is a member of the Allegheny County and Pennsylvania Bar associations. She received a 2021 Best Lawyers®: Ones to Watch recognition from BL Rankings for Energy Law.
