Eric M. Spada

Area of Emphasis

Mr. Spada is a senior counsel in the Litigation Group of Babst Calland. Mr. Spada’s practice focuses primarily on commercial litigation. He has represented a diverse array of clients in a variety of cases in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, and Florida, and also in commercial and construction arbitrations. He has also practiced in front of real estate tax assessment and appeal boards and state and federal ALJs. His litigation experience includes matters relating to construction, real estate, energy and natural resources, tax assessments and tax exemptions, and financial services. He has also successfully litigated cases concerning closely-held business disputes, franchising, civil identity theft, and insurance fraud issues. Mr. Spada also has extensive experience in the e-Discovery space.

Background

Mr. Spada graduated with high honors from the Schreyer Honors College at the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Finance in 2008. He received his J.D. from the George Washington University Law School in 2011, where he wrote for the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and was a member of the Mock Trial Board. Prior to joining Babst Calland, Mr. Spada worked for 10 years in the litigation section of a national law firm.

Memberships and Affiliations

Mr. Spada is admitted to practice before all Pennsylvania courts and the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He has also been admitted pro hac vice in numerous state and federal courts. Mr. Spada is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association. He has received a Best Lawyers®: Ones to Watch recognition from BL Rankings for Commercial Litigation since 2022.
