Joe P. Yeager

Joe Yeager is a Senior Associate in the Environmental Group of Babst Calland. Mr. Yeager provides advice and legal counsel to clients in a wide range of environmental and Delaware corporate law matters. His extensive environmental law experience includes providing clients with strategic advice regarding CERCLA (commonly known as Superfund), RCRA and state and local environmental regulations throughout all stages of the environmental law process, from responding to enforcement actions by the federal government and State Attorneys General to defending and advising clients confronted with common law contractual issues in connection with first-party cleanup liability. In addition to guiding clients through the process of environmental regulatory compliance and negotiating consent decrees and other agency decisional documents, Mr. Yeager provides legal advice and guidance to clients faced with defending or pursuing third-party contribution claims and other environmental litigation at complex third-party disposal sites (e.g., hazardous waste landfills and drum handling sites). Prior to joining Babst Calland, Mr. Yeager served as Assistant Outside General Counsel to a Fortune 100 company for 14 years, providing high-level legal counsel and leadership in the areas of environmental remediation and corporate governance. In this role, he was responsible for managing national environmental liabilities connected to more than 50 Superfund sites. Mr. Yeager provided advice on effective management of environmental legal liabilities and litigation arising from involvement in CERCLA and RCRA actions at superfund sites in all phases of remediation, from active removal and remediation to long-term operations and management. Further, Mr. Yeager provided strategic counsel and guidance on effective management of environmental risks in the purchase or sale of contaminated properties, either partially or fully remediated, including the drafting of environmental liability allocation terms and prospective purchaser agreements. In addition to his experience in environmental law, Mr. Yeager provides legal and strategic advice to clients on corporate and commercial transactions, from formation to dissolution of Delaware business entities, including commercial transactional documents, supply chain agreements, and internal corporate governance advice to national and multinational corporations. Mr. Yeager formerly served as Alderman Judge for Court 42 in Newport, Delaware under appointment by Governor of the State of Delaware, Ruth Ann Miller.

Background

Mr. Yeager earned his B.A. in 1997 from Ohio State University, J.D. from Widener University Delaware Law School in 2002 and a Pace University Lubin School of Business Certificate in 2016. He speaks German and Russian.

Mr. Yeager is admitted to practice in Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania and before the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Delaware and New Jersey. He is a member of the Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania Bar associations and the Section of Environmental Law for the Delaware and American Bar associations.
