Joseph A. Pope

Area of Emphasis

Joseph Pope is senior counsel in the Commercial and Corporate Group of Babst Calland. Mr. Pope’s practice focuses on corporate and transactional matters, including corporate and commercial finance transactions, with a particular focus on transactions involving commercial real estate.

On the finance side, Mr. Pope regularly represents financial institutions and borrowers in a variety of commercial and corporate finance transactions, including commercial real estate acquisition financing and construction loans, as well as structured financing, asset-based borrowing, working capital facilities, and syndicated lending transactions.

On the real estate side, Mr. Pope regularly represents clients in acquisitions, sales, and leasing transactions involving a broad range of commercial property types, including retail, office, mixed-use, and industrial/warehouse space. He also represents developers through all stages of the commercial real estate project development lifecycle.

Additionally, Mr. Pope is also involved in mergers and acquisitions, as well as general corporate law, and has significant experience acting as outside general counsel to various companies across multiple industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and government contracting.

Background

Mr. Pope received his undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from Theil College in 2005, earning a B.A. in Accounting and Business Administration. He received his J. D., cum laude, from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 2008, where he was a Dean’s Merit Scholar. During law school, Mr. Pope served as Note and Comment Editor for the Journal of Law and Commerce and held an externship with the Honorable Ralph J. Cappy, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
