Jennifer Malik and Anna Hosack recently co-authored Commonwealth Court Declines to Extend ‘Slice of Life’ to Support Group Home’s Application for Curative Amendment in the Legal Intelligencer. While municipalities continue to grapple with the repercussions of Slice of Life, proponents for another controversial residential use—community living or group homes—attempted to rely on Slice of Life to support a curative amendment to a zoning ordinance that would allow a community living use in a residential district. In their recent article Climate-Related Disclosures for Federal Suppliers Disclosed in the PIOGA Press, Gina Falaschi Buchman, Justine Kasznica and Susanna Bagdasarova discuss the proposed Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) rule published by  the Department of Defense (DoD), General Services Administration (GSA), and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The rule would require certain federal suppliers to annually disclose their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and climate-related financial risks, as well as set GHG emissions reduction targets, on an annual basis. The Women’s Initiative’s 2023 Mentoring Circle Kickoff Meeting

Babst Calland’s Women’s Initiative Committee hosted a breakfast meeting last week to celebrate one of the group’s key initiatives:  Mentoring Circles.  The Firm’s women attorneys gathered to meet the members of their new 2023 mentoring circles, which are small groups designed to connect the Firm’s women attorneys across Babst Calland’s practice groups and offices.  These mentoring circles encourage collaboration and provide an opportunity for the attorneys to identify synergies to enhance each attorney’s practice and create integrated teams to serve our clients’ varying legal needs.  On behalf of the Firm’s Women’s Initiative Committee, current Chair, Carla Castello, also previewed some of the exciting projects on the horizon.  Look for more great things to come from this group in 2023!

Babst Calland Names Tiffany Arbaugh as Senior Counsel

Babst Calland recently named Tiffany Arbaugh as Senior Counsel in the Firm.

Tiffany Arbaugh is a member of the Energy and Natural Resources and Litigation groups. Mrs. Arbaugh has more than 16 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. She focuses her practice on representing corporations in a variety of litigation matters with an emphasis on mineral title, real estate, trespass, fraud and title curative disputes. Mrs. Arbaugh’s practice also includes advising clients in customary business operations, litigation avoidance strategies and litigation preparedness.

Anna Hosack Joins Babst Calland

Anna R. Hosack recently joined Babst Calland as an associate in the Public Sector Group of Babst Calland. Ms. Hosack’s practice focuses primarily on municipal and land use law with a concentration in general municipal, zoning, subdivision and land development, and code enforcement. Ms. Hosack participated in the Firm’s Summer Associate’s program. She is a 2022 graduate of Duquesne University School of Law.

Babst Calland Receives ACBA ALLY Certification in Diversity and Inclusion

Babst Calland was honored to receive the Allegheny County Bar Association ALLY Certification for Diversity and Inclusion at a graduation ceremony last week. As part of the inaugural ALLY Initiative cohort, the firm participated in various key programs and projects to advance its commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion in the workplace and legal profession. Attorney Carla Castello (pictured), along with Donald Bluedorn and Lisa Bruderly, accepted the honor on behalf of the firm.

Justine Kasznica Leads Moonshot Museum Grand Opening

Attorney Justine Kasznica who is also a Founding Board Member of the Moonshot Museum, led its grand opening on October 15.
